On June 22–23, 2026, at the initiative of the Polish Bar Association, a commemorative ceremony was held in memory of lawyers who were murdered by the Nazi regime during the Second World War.

Shahmar Mammadov, Deputy Chairman of the Azerbaijan Bar Association (ABA), attended the event at the invitation of the Polish Bar Association.

As part of the ceremony, a meeting was held between the Management Board of the Polish Bar Association and the visiting guests at the Association's administrative headquarters in Warsaw. During the meeting, a presentation was delivered on the crimes committed against Polish lawyers during the Second World War. Participants were informed about the hardships endured by members of the legal profession during the war, as well as their dedication to justice, human rights, and the rule of law.

In his remarks, Przemysław Rosati, President of the Polish Bar Association, stated that commemorating lawyers who were killed by the Nazi regime during the Second World War has become a longstanding tradition of the Association and is observed every June with a special memorial ceremony. He emphasized that Poland was one of the first victims of Nazi aggression and that the country became one of the principal centers of wartime occupation and resistance.

Addressing the meeting, Shahmar Mammadov noted that the Second World War brought devastating consequences for humanity, claiming the lives of millions of people, including many members of the legal profession. He stressed that the memory of their fallen colleagues is always honored with deep respect and reaffirmed that the Azerbaijan Bar Association consistently advocates for peace, security, and the protection of human life as the highest universal values.

The participants then visited the Palmiry Military Cemetery, located in Kampinos National Park, where Polish lawyers who had been deliberately brought there by the Nazi regime were executed and buried. They laid flowers at the graves of members of the Polish Bar Association and paid tribute to their memory.

As part of the memorial program, the participants also visited a local museum dedicated to the history and tragic events of that period, gaining deeper insight into the hardships experienced by the Polish people and the country's legal community during the Second World War.

In addition, the guests were taken on guided tours of Warsaw's Old Town and the National Museum in Warsaw.

At the National Museum, Shahmar Mammadov wrote a heartfelt message in the museum's Book of Remembrance.

During the visit, Deputy Chairman Shahmar Mammadov also held a series of meetings with Przemysław Rosati, President of the Polish Bar Association; Ulrich Karpenstein, Vice President of the German Federal Bar; Christian Lemke, President of the Hamburg Bar Association; and other members of the legal profession.

The meetings focused on current challenges in the legal field, the future development of the legal profession, modern legal approaches, and the exchange of international best practices.

The parties also discussed opportunities to expand international cooperation, enhance the professional training of lawyers, improve legal aid mechanisms, and promote sustainable reforms in the legal sector.
