On October 1-2 of the current year, a delegation led by Anar Bagirov, the head of the Azerbaijani Bar Association (ABA), went on an official visit to the city of London to participate in the opening ceremony of the “Legal Year”, jointly invited by the Law Society of England and Wales (LSEW) and the Bar Council of England and Wales (BCEW).
In addition to the head of BARA, Anar Bagirov, Elchin Usub, a member of the Board of the ABA, also participated in the visit.
According to the event schedule, discussions between the leaders of the Bar Councils took place on October 1, 2023.
The purpose of the discussions is to ensure and protect the independence of the legal profession in the modern and constantly developing field of law and to further strengthen the independence of the legal profession in both international and local law.
Within the framework of the event, a visit was made to Westminster Abbey, and an official reception was held in the Houses of Parliament by the Lord Chancellor.
Note that the opening ceremony of the “Legal Year” was attended by Nick Vineall, the president of BCEW, Lubna Shuja, the president of LSEW, Panagiotis Perakis, the president of the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE), leaders of bar councils and legal societies from various countries around the world, as well as government officials and representatives of civil society.
Bilateral meetings were held between Anar Bagirov, the head of BARA, and the leaders of international organizations and bar councils of various countries with the aim of strengthening future cooperation. Discussions were held on experience exchange, as well as on the prospects for future cooperation within the framework of LSEW and BCEW.
Subsequently, an official banquet was organized for the event participants.
It is noteworthy that, based on the agreement reached between ABA and LSEW in 2019, members of ABA - lawyers can take the relevant exam for admission to the bar in Great Britain and, after passing it, they can be admitted to the bar and engage in legal activities in the territory of England and Wales.
