Delegation of the Azerbaijani Bar Association paid an official visit to Serbia

On March 1-2, 2024, the representatives of the Board of the Azerbaijani Bar Association (ABA) - Ms Lala Naghiyeva and Ms Ilhama Huseynova, the Chief Legal Advisor of the ABA, Mr Sattar Mammadov, were on an official visit to Belgrade, Serbia, to participate in the festive event held on the occasion of the Lawyers' Day of Serbia.

The event was attended by Mr Pierre-Dominique Schupp, President of the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE), Ms Jacqueline Scott, President of the International Bar Association (UIA), as well as heads of bar associations and law societies from various countries, government officials, and representatives of civil society.

Before the event, the Azerbaijani delegation visited the monument of national leader Heydar Aliyev in Belgrade, laid flowers at his monument and honoured his memory.

As part of the event, a formal reception was organized by the Bar Association of Serbia (BAS) for the guests. The next day, visits were organized to the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, the Historical Museum of Serbia, and the Church of Saint Sava.

Subsequently, a formal ceremony was held at the "Kolarac" Concert Hall by the BAS. At the beginning of the event, Mr Veljko Delibašić, President of the BAS, delivered an opening speech welcoming the guests. Then, the event participants were provided information about the history of Serbian advocacy.

As part of the program, a special concert was organized for the guests, followed by an official dinner at the end of the day.

During the visit, a meeting was held with Mr Rajko Maric, President of the Eastern Bars Committee of the Federation of European Bars (FBE), where the recent developments in the field of advocacy in Azerbaijan were highly appreciated, and initial agreements were reached on joint implementation of various projects.

Furthermore, bilateral meetings were held with delegations from the CCBE, UIA, and BAS and representatives of other countries' bar associations to strengthen further the cooperation established during the recent period, exchange experiences, and discuss the prospects for future collaboration.
