On March 13, 2024, an
international webinar dedicated to the theme "Doing Eastern" in the
direction of "Doing Business" in Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Serbia, and
Romania was held by the Eastern Bars Committee of the Federation of European
Bar Associations (FBE).
In his opening speech,
Mr Anar Baghirov, the Chairman of the Azerbaijani Bar Association (ABA) and
also a member of the Eastern Bars Committee of the FBE, stated that ABA's
membership in the FBE has opened new avenues for professional development and
cooperation, emphasizing its significant contributions to international
relations.
Chairman Mr Baghirov
highlighted ABA's efforts in this field, particularly the establishment of the
Business Law Committee, the organization of regular training sessions for
lawyers, and the role of the ABA in improving business legislation in the
country.
Additionally, Mr Anar
Baghirov noted that Azerbaijan will host the 29th session of the Conference of
the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change
(COP29) this year, emphasizing that this event is a testament to the increasing
global influence of our country and the interest of various states and
international organizations in Azerbaijan.
Later, Ms Narmin
Abbasova, the Head of the International Cooperation Department of the ABA,
provided a comprehensive presentation on the reforms implemented in the
business sector, achievements in the socio-economic sphere, the favourable
business and investment environment created, Azerbaijan's recognition as a
reliable partner in the international arena, its significant position as a
transit hub in the region, the attractiveness of the country for investment,
and the continuous improvement of domestic legislation in line with this
policy.
Furthermore,
participants and speakers at the webinar included Mr Rajko Maric, the President
of the Eastern Bars Committee of the FBE, Mr Călin Viorel Iuga from the Cluj
Bar Association of Romania, Mr Mengü Gökçe from the Ankara Bar Association of
Türkiye, as well as representatives of bar associations and legal societies from
other European countries.
It should be noted that
ABA was accepted as a full-fledged member of the FBE at the organization's
general assembly on June 15-17, 2023. As the 21st member of the FBE
organization, which unites bar associations and legal societies from 20
countries that are members of the Council of Europe and the European Union, as
well as more than one million lawyers, Azerbaijan became the first country from
the South Caucasus.
