On 5 September, the Legal Aid Centre of the Azerbaijani Bar Association (ABA) hosted a meeting with a delegation led by Ivan Charnetski, Head of the Legal Department of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Shahmar Mammadov, Deputy Chairman of the ABA and Director of the Legal Aid Centre, opened the meeting with an introductory speech, welcomed the guests on behalf of ABA Chairman Anar Baghirov, and spoke about the work accomplished in recent years and the directions of the Centre's activity.

The Deputy Chairman emphasised the successful cooperation with the UNHCR for 5 years, noting that this cooperation is fruitful and useful, and also highly appreciated the relations of the Association between the institutions, noting the importance of regular meetings for joint projects in the future.

Then Ivan Charnetski, Head of the Legal Department of the UNHCR, in his speech said that he considered the activities of the ABA in recent years as praiseworthy, stated that he was pleased with the close cooperation and highly appreciated the steps taken by the ABA in this field. The guest underlined the necessity of cooperation and expressed his opinion on further practical steps in this direction in the shortest possible time.

At the same time, the meeting discussed and exchanged views on a number of other issues of mutual interest.
