On November 29, the Legal Aid Center of the Azerbaijani Bar Association (ABA) hosted a meeting with a delegation from the Moscow Chamber of Young Lawyers, led by its Chair, Mr. Dmitry Kravchenko.
The
event commenced with an opening address by Mr. Shahmar Mammadov, Deputy
Chairman of the ABA and Director of the Legal Aid Center, who welcomed the
distinguished guests on behalf of the ABA Chairman, Mr. Anar Baghirov. In his
remarks, Mr Mammadov underscored the strong ties of friendship and good-neighbourly
relations between Azerbaijan and Russia, while providing an overview of the
ABA’s recent achievements and initiatives.
Emphasising
the importance of fostering young legal talent, Mr. Mammadov highlighted the
ABA's sustained efforts to support law students, interns, and volunteers. He
noted the signing of cooperation agreements with all higher education
institutions in Azerbaijan offering law programs, as well as the annual
organization of summer and winter law schools, which attract over 300 students
each year.
Mr.
Mammadov further elaborated on the collaborative projects implemented within
this framework, the resources provided to students and youth organizations, and
the ongoing activities of the Legal Aid Center and ABA Academy.
During
the meeting, Mr. Yunis Nasibov, a member of the ABA and Co-Chair of the ABA’s
Young Lawyers Committee, presented an update on initiatives undertaken to
support young lawyers, emphasizing their participation in numerous
international events.
Ms.
Gozal Huseynzade, Head of the ABA’s International Cooperation Department,
delivered a comprehensive presentation outlining the reforms and measures
implemented by the ABA in recent years. She detailed the efforts to elevate the
status of the legal profession and shared the significant outcomes achieved.
In
his response, Mr. Dmitry Kravchenko expressed his satisfaction with the visit,
commending the ABA’s progressive measures in advancing the legal profession and
its focus on international cooperation.
The
meeting concluded with a constructive exchange of ideas, discussions on
potential future collaborations, and deliberations on issues of mutual
interest. Participants also had the opportunity to address various questions.
Following
the formal discussions, the delegation toured the administrative building of
the Legal Aid Center, where they were introduced to its infrastructure and work
environment.
As
part of their visit, the delegation also explored the administrative premises
of the “Kamandar Nasibov and Partners” Law Office and received a detailed
briefing on its operations and legal services.
This
meeting marked a significant step towards strengthening professional ties and
fostering collaboration between the Azerbaijani Bar Association and the Moscow
Chamber of Young Lawyers.
