On February 25 of this year, a delegation led by Anar Baghirov, Chairman of the Bar Association of the Republic of Azerbaijan (BAR), and a member of the Anti-Corruption Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan, visited the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) in Laxenburg, Austria, and held a meeting with the Academy’s Rector, Slagjana Taseva.
During the
meeting, IACA Rector Slagjana Taseva welcomed the delegation and provided
extensive information about the Academy’s activities. She emphasized the
importance of international cooperation in the fight against corruption and
noted the Academy’s long-term and effective collaboration with the Prosecutor
General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Following
this, IACA staff members spoke about the training sessions and educational
programs organized by the Academy.
Anar
Baghirov, Chairman of the BAR, highlighted the importance of professional
development and education for lawyers. He also provided detailed information
about the effective measures and legal reforms undertaken in Azerbaijan to
strengthen the fight against corruption. He stressed that applying effective
strategies and learning from international experience is crucial in combating
corruption. Discussing the prospects for future cooperation with IACA, Baghirov
emphasized the significance of Azerbaijani lawyers benefiting from this
academic platform.
During the
meeting, Gozal Huseynzade, Head of the International Cooperation Department of
the BAR, gave a presentation on the Association’s activities and recent
initiatives.
Additionally,
delegation member Elchin Usub shared his views on the discussed topics,
expressed his thoughts on the future prospects of cooperation, and put forward
proposals to expand educational opportunities for lawyers.
Within the
framework of the meeting, the parties discussed future cooperation strategies
and agreed on concrete steps to support the professional development and
education of lawyers. In this regard, it was agreed to grant Azerbaijani
lawyers special benefits for IACA’s master’s programs, short- and long-term
training courses, summer schools, and other academic programs.
Furthermore,
plans were made to organize new training and professional development programs
between IACA and the BAR. The discussions also covered the institutional and
sustainable development of cooperation between the two organizations.
The
meeting continued with the exchange of questions and proposals.
It should
be noted that the establishment of cooperation between the BAR and IACA will
play an important role in strengthening the fight against corruption and
enhancing legal knowledge in the future.
