As part of the project “Promoting Mediation in Azerbaijan”, a delegation comprising representatives of the Judicial-Legal Council, the Ministries of Justice and Foreign Affairs, the Azerbaijan Bar Association (ABA), and the Mediation Council visited Portugal.
The delegation included Ilhama Hasanova, member of the ABA
Presidium and head of Baku City’s 20th Law Office.
During the visit, the delegation held meetings at the Ministry of Justice of
Portugal and gained firsthand insight into the work of the Lisbon Arbitration Center
for Consumer Disputes and the Lisbon Peace Court.
During the meetings, the delegation was briefed on the functioning of peace courts and
arbitration centers in Portugal, as well as the reforms carried out in the
field of alternative dispute resolution (ADR).
Presentations were given on the selection procedures for peace judges and mediators,
the rules
governing the activities of peace judges, and innovations applied in
these areas, with questions from the delegation addressed in
detail.
The Azerbaijani delegation also received comprehensive information about judicial-legal reforms in Azerbaijan, including work undertaken in the area of alternative dispute resolution, highlighting positive practices and achievements in this field.
