Leadership of the Bar Association Holds Meeting at Romania’s Ministry of Justice

A delegation led by Anar Baghirov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Bar Association, is on an official visit to Bucharest, Romania, at the invitation of the Romanian Bar Association.

The delegation includes Shahmar Mammadov, Deputy Chairman of the Bar Association, and Gozal Huseynzade, Head of the International Cooperation Department of the Bar Association’s Office.

As part of the visit, the delegation held a meeting at the Romanian Ministry of Justice.

During the meeting, the sincere and friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Romania were particularly emphasized. The parties exchanged views on efforts to further expand bilateral cooperation in the legal field and discussed prospects for future collaboration.

Roxana Simona Momeu, State Secretary of the Romanian Ministry of Justice, provided detailed information on reforms implemented within Romania’s justice system and their practical application. She also spoke about the activities of the Romanian Bar Association and ongoing initiatives in the area of joint cooperation.

Chairman Anar Baghirov expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and invitation, noting that Romania is one of Azerbaijan’s important partner countries. He emphasized that the steadily developing political and economic relations between the two countries create a solid foundation for enhanced legal cooperation. The Chairman also provided detailed information on the recent activities and projects of the Azerbaijan Bar Association, highlighting that the number of lawyers in Azerbaijan has increased by more than threefold in recent years.

Mr. Baghirov stressed that the Bar Association operates as a fully independent institution and spoke about the measures implemented within the framework of effective and constructive cooperation with the Ministry of Justice. He underscored the importance of mandatory training programs for prospective lawyers at the Justice Academy, as well as continuous professional development courses for practicing lawyers, noting their significant role in improving professional competence.

He also highlighted the activities of the Judicial-Legal Council and the Bar Association’s active and effective representation within this body, as well as in the Judges’ Selection Committee, the Council of Forensic Expertise, and the Competition and Disciplinary Commissions of Private Bailiffs, emphasizing that such participation contributes to the development of the judicial and legal system.

In addition, Gozal Huseynzade, Head of the International Cooperation Department, delivered a presentation outlining the reforms implemented by the Bar Association in recent years, efforts to enhance the prestige of the legal profession, and the positive results achieved in this area.

Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed during the meeting.

As part of the visit, further meetings with representatives of various Romanian institutions and the leadership of the Romanian Bar Association are planned, along with discussions aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation.

The meeting was also attended by Gudsi Osmanov, Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Romania.
