From February 11 to 14, 2026, a delegation of the Azerbaijan Bar Association (ABA), led by its Chairman Anar Baghirov, made an official visit to Vienna, Austria, at the invitation of the Austrian Bar Association.

The delegation included ABA Chairman Anar Baghirov, Member of the Executive Board Elchin Usub, and Head of the International Cooperation Department of the ABA Secretariat Gozal Huseynzade.

On the first day of the visit, Elchin Usub and Gozal Huseynzade attended the next meeting of the PECO Committee of the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE). During the meeting, member and observer organizations of the CCBE presented reports, exchanging information on the current state of the legal profession and recent developments in the justice systems of various countries.

At the meeting, ABA Executive Board Member Elchin Usub delivered a presentation on the reforms carried out by the Association in recent years and the work done toward institutional development. He highlighted the progressive and systematic amendments made to the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On Lawyers and Advocacy”, noting that these changes strengthen the institutional framework of the legal profession, enhance self-governance mechanisms, and ensure that professional activity is organized efficiently, flexibly, and in accordance with modern requirements.

On February 12, the delegation participated in the meetings of the CCBE Permanent Committees, during which committee members discussed agenda items and votes, and made decisions regarding the future directions of the CCBE’s activities.

On February 13, the delegation led by Chairman Anar Baghirov attended the 54th Conference of Leaders of European Bar Associations.

This conference, which has been held for over half a century, serves as a prestigious dialogue platform for experience-sharing and discussion of current legal issues among the heads of European bar associations. The conference, dedicated to the theme “" Freedom versus Security: The Rule of Law under the Strain of Modern Crime",” took place in the historic Palais Ferstel building in Vienna.

During the conference, participants were received by the Federal Chancellor of Austria and the Austrian Federal Minister of Justice.

The conference concluded with an official reception for all participants.
