On 6 May 2026, an international event titled “Global Colloquium on Alternative Dispute Resolution: Cooperation Between Institutions and Courts” was held in Istanbul, Türkiye. The event was organized by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) in cooperation with the Istanbul Arbitration Centre.
The Azerbaijan Bar Association (ABA) was represented at the event by
Nazli Ahmadova, Chair of the Business Law Committee, and Afghan Bakhishov, a
member of the Committee.
The event focused on current issues related to strengthening
institutional cooperation in the field of alternative dispute resolution (ADR),
enhancing interaction mechanisms between courts and arbitration institutions,
promoting the exchange of international experience, and developing the
professional capacity of lawyers and relevant institutions.
Participants also exchanged views on the role of bar associations in
arbitration, contemporary institutional approaches, and avenues for improving
the legal and institutional framework governing dispute resolution.
In addition, the event featured the presentation of the publication
“Alternative Dispute Resolution: Institutional Governance and Practical
Approaches for States,” issued by the CLDP and expected to become publicly
available in the near future.
