At the meeting held on February 19, 2021 between the representatives of the South Caucasus Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Board of the Bar Association, the Chairman of the Bar Anar Bagirov informed about the work done in the field of advocacy, projects implemented in the regions. It was noted that closer ties have been established with the UN and its structural units over the past period.
Vladimir Shkolnikov, Chief Human Rights Adviser of the South Caucasus Office, noted that his organization attaches great importance to cooperation with the Bar Association and is interested in further developing effective cooperation in the protection of human rights and freedoms.
A.Bagirov spoke about the issues of interest and the importance of continuing effective cooperation. On the other hand, despite the fact that there are some obstacles to the goals set due to the pandemic, lawyers are actively involved in joint awareness projects in the capital and regions of the country. A free legal aid campaign is regularly organized for families.
Most importantly, he reported on the provision of free legal assistance and free representation in court by member lawyers by visiting the homes of civilians, families of martyrs and wounded veterans affected by the Armenian provocation, terrorist acts against the civilian population and military operations.
At the same time, Kamran Bagirov, National Adviser for Human Rights of the South Caucasus Office, Rashad Aliyev, Project Coordinator, Bayram Orujov, Head of the Administrative Office, Farhad Najafov, Advisor to the Chairman also attended the meeting and discussed priority areas of cooperation between the two sides.
