The European Law Students’ Association (ELSA) is the world's largest organization of law students and young lawyers, bringing together more than 350 cities and universities in 44 European countries, including more than 60 000 youth members. This organization was founded in 1981, and the Azerbaijani National Group was founded in 2010. The main purpose of ELSA is to contribute to legal education, to foster mutual understanding, to promote the social responsibility of law students and young lawyers. ELSA supports the development of law students and young lawyers through many local, national and international events (academic competitions, moot court competitions, seminars, webinars, law schools, student trainee exchange programs, law review, etc. on various fields of law).

Samira Safarova, a Member of the National Board of ELSA Azerbaijan, was elected Vice President for Academic Activities of the International Board (IB) of ELSA at the International Council Meeting held on April 11-17, 2021, by gaining the votes of more than 20 countries.

It is worth noting that the IB is the supreme executive body of the organization and 8 members of the IB work at the headquarter of ELSA in Brussels, Belgium for one year. Their main job is to collect information from member countries, prepare them accordingly, as well as coordinate and manage National and Local groups. The IB also carries out professional cooperation with other international organizations (CoE, WTO, International Bar & Youth Associations, governments, firms, and so forth).

Besides, Samira Safarova is a member of the Board of “ProDemos - For People” NGO initiated by The Azerbaijani Bar Association (ABA) and ELSA Azerbaijan, and at today's meeting Anar Bagirov, the Chairman of the ABA, congratulated Samira on her great success and once again reminded that the ABA is always ready to support youth in all possible ways. At the end, the stamps dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijani advocacy were presented to the guests.

With that being said, according to the Memorandum of Cooperation signed between the ABA and ELSA Azerbaijan, at the meeting of the Board of the ABA held yesterday, April 28, 2021, it was decided to provide financial support to the main projects of ELSA Azerbaijan for this term including National Moot Court Competition and ELSA Negotiation Competition (negotiation process between 2 parties representing a client on negotiating a legal dispute) which is about increasing interest in advocacy.
