On the 24th of August, an online meeting was held between the Azerbaijani Bar Association and LAWASIA. The meeting gave an opportunity for the leadership of both organizations to personally greet each other, share mutually beneficial information on the relationship between the organizations and future steps in improving these relationships.
Opening the event, Mr. Chunghwan Choi, president of the LAWASIA, welcomed Mr. Anar Baghirov, the Chairman of the Azerbaijani Bar Association, and thanked him for the active role that he plays in the development of mutually beneficial cooperation between the respected organizations. In addition, Mr. Choi underlined the fact that the ABA is the first organization from CIS and Eastern European countries which became a member of the LAWASIA.
Furthermore, Mr. Sayad Gilijov, the Head of the International Cooperation’s Department within the ABA, made a presentation of the ABA on its history, objectives, activity, opportunities used during Covid-19, the current situation with the pandemic in Azerbaijan, online legal aid application and the pro-bono services provided by the members of the ABA to the low-income citizens in Azerbaijan.
Furthermore, Mr. Baghirov emphasized his readiness for further development of cooperation, gave detailed information on the pro-bono services provided by the members of the ABA, and underlined the importance of the role that LAWASIA plays in the promotion of the rule of law around the world. Additionally, Mr. Baghirov invited the management of the LAWASIA to Azerbaijan.
Moreover, Vice President of the LAWASIA Mr. Steven Thiru provided the participants of the meeting with detailed information on activities of different committees of the LAWASIA, online webinars, seminars, and future conferences that will be organized by the LAWASIA.
Lastly, both Mr.Choi and Mr. Baghirov spoke about the future organization of the joint webinars, seminars, and conferences and wished to meet with each other in Azerbaijan next time.
We would like to note that the LAWASIA is an association that covers the continents of the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, acts in the interests and problems of the legal profession, and has members consisting of judges, lawyers, and legal organizations. The organization includes individuals and legal associations representing more than 40 jurisdictions.
