Cooperation between the Azerbaijani Bar Association and the International Committee of the Red Cross expands

A meeting between the Azerbaijani Bar Association (ABA) and the International Committee of the Red Cross was held on September 13. The meeting was attended by Chairman of the ABA Anar Bagirov, Chief of Office Bayram Orujov, Head of the International Cooperation Department Sayad Gilijov, ICRC Head of the Integration and Promotion of Law/ Legal Adviser Jala Azizova, and ICRC Team Leader for Detention Elem Khairullin.
 
Welcoming the guests, Anar Bagirov briefed them on the work done in the field of advocacy. He noted that as a result of the work done by the ABA, the institute has entered a new stage of development.
 
The meeting also discussed the provision of professional legal assistance to citizens in cooperation with the Legal Aid and Training Center established by the ABA in recent years, the organization of joint training programs to further improve the professionalism of lawyers, and stressed the importance of effective cooperation.
 
In addition, he stressed the need for financial independence for a strong, influential, and independent advocacy institution, noted Turkey's experience in ensuring financial independence without the support and grants of local and international organizations, and spoke about the use of warranty stamps.
 
In addition, he said that the interest in the field has increased many times, support has been provided to young people, financial support has been provided for participation in international competitions, various projects, and scholarships have been awarded to students who excel in education.
 
The ICRC representatives also noted that ICRC willing to expand its efforts to continue its cooperation with the ABA.
 
The meeting also focused on the relationship between the ICRC and the ABA, current and future issues related to the organization's mandate, important joint projects, and their implementation mechanism, important measures taken by the organization for Azerbaijani citizens in conflict zones, especially children suffering from conflicts. They exchanged views on the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict and humanitarian cooperation.
